Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives
CARD takes Corporate Support to meet its objectives of community empowerment programme as well as supports Corporates in planning and meeting their CSR initiatives. CARD has been associated with some brand names since a decade;
The Samruddhi (Holistic Development) Program is a joint collaboration of John Deere India CSR and CARD, Bhopal. The Samruddhi project has been designed as a long term comprehensive integrated development programme spread over different locations and has been developed to make a positive difference in the lives of the communities in and around the John Deere India Factory facilities at Pune, Dewas, Sirhind and Nagpur.
CARD is directly implementing the programme in Dewas, Sirhind and Nagpur, and through partner NGOs in selected community habitations of Pune rural (Cohesion Foundation) and in Pune urban (Mashal), and Vocational training programme is being implemented by Labournet for the youth in Pune.
CARD in partnership with HDFC has started a new initiative Khushahali with its CSR support in 8 villages of Abohar district of Punjab. Now it has been invited to start similar programme with watershed focus in 12 villages of Nanded district of Maharashatra.
The Smart Power India (SPI) and the Rockfeller Foundation are working together in certain power deficient pockets of the country to provide power backup to boost industrial inputs through small enterprise development for livelihoods promotion. CARD has supported it to facilitate this transition. CARD has set up a honey processing plant in Sitapur in UP and has formed a honey producers company which is working on honey value chain development.
Public Private Community Partnership Demonstration Model of Watershed Rehabilitation project is being implemented in the nine project villages located around Mahuria site of Suzlon wind farms since April 2011.
CARD is working with JK Cements for providing support to its CSR wing in integrated development of adjoining 5 villages to the Morena plant.
We have recently joined the ShwetDhara- Dairy initiative with IDFC Foundation in around hundred villages in three clusters of Dhar and Ujjain districts.
We are also in final stages to initiate a women federation empowerment programme in Dhar with E&Y and a watershed development initiative in Damoh (MP) and Sholapur (Maharashatra) with UWM.
Our past assignments include the following;
CARD has been organizing traditional tribal (non-tribals also) honey hunters into Self Help Groups, upgrade their skills, arranging modern hygienic procurement and processing facilities, and to provide value addition by introducing quality control, packaging, branding, certification and establishing marketing linkages. The initiative was initially supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) in establishing a honey processing plant which is one of the largest plants in MP. The tribal youth were trained in non-destructive harvesting techniques and were provided kits and protective dresses through TRIFED and SGSY support. A loosely knit tribal honey hunter’s federation was established in the name of Maikalsutta. Managed by CARD the Maikalsuta was unable to cross 2 tone honey sale. This is where SRTT also provided small support. The average annual sales are of 5 tons, meaning that around Rs 6 lakh is regularly distributed to the members.
CARD also supports Corporates in identifying needs and aspirations of the community residing in the periphery of industrial units so that need based programmes can be identified and prepared. It also conducts baseline surveys and impact assessment of Corporates initiatives. We have conducted Need Assessment Studies for CSR works for the following agencies:
- United Ways of Mumbai hired services of CARD to perform Need Assessment Study for its client i.e John Deere for identifying need based CSR initiatives in MP, Gujarat, Punjab during 2013.
- During 2010 The Aditya Birla Group had assigned CARD the task of Social Satisfaction Survey for its five Cement producing units located at different locations of India.
- Bharat Oman Refineries Limited (BORL) assigned CARD the task of Need Assessment Survey in 21 villages around Bina Refinery plant. Around 2000 sample households and all village FGDs were surveyed/ studied during 2014.
